The Dood Babies are going PRIVATE!

May 17, 2008 - The Babies are 40 Days Old Today!!

Pictured above: 1. Aidan and Brooklyn with Mom (holding two babies at once is harder than it looks) 2. Cal enjoying his nasal cannula 3. Brooklyn (pretty in pink) 4. Cal thinking about his girlfriend, Itty Bitty Lydie (she sent him a love note in the mail this week)

Hi All!

The babies are doing great! Aidan and Brooklyn have been in room air with their top popped for about two weeks now. They tried popping Cal's top yesterday and he did well for awhile, but in the night his body temperature went down so they had to put his top back down. They will try again in a day or two. Once he is able to regulate his body temperature he will be moved into a crib with his brother and sister. We can't wait for that day!!

Bottle feeding is a challenge. Cal seems to be doing the best; taking all of his bottle almost every time. Brooke and Aidan are hit or miss and finish their bottles only some of the time.

Many people have asked about target dates for the babies to come home. Unfortunately, there is no talk about that at this time. They say generally it is around the time of the original due date which is June 24th. We are hoping to bring at least one baby home before then but only time will tell. The babies need to do the following things before being able to leave the NICU: 1. breathe on their own 2. regulate their body temperature 3. be able to eat (while remembering to breathe).

Their current weights are: Aidan-4 pounds 4 ounces, Brooklyn-4 pounds 2 ounces and Calahan-3 pounds 11 ounces.

Paul and I have decided to privatize the blog now that the babies are getting older. So, if you enjoy the blog and would like to continue reading it please e-mail me with your name and e-mail address so I can add you to the list. My e-mail address is KristinSPE1@aol.com. This change will take place one week from today, so please try to let me know by then.

Also, many of you have offered to help with the babies once they arrive home and we really appreciate that. I would like to start drafting a calendar of helpers, so if you are interested please indicate that in your e-mail and let me know what time/day would work for you.

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. Have a great weekend!!
